In the first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. I will ask about what brought you to therapy, what you want to get out of therapy, and create those goals together. We will talk a bit about your history but only what you're comfortable with sharing. By the end , we'll have a sense of how we might move forward together.
No, I offer a range of approaches. While EMDR is one of my specialties, I tailor therapy to each persons need. I integrate traditional talk therapy, Internal Family System concepts, and other evidence based approaches to support your goals.
EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people process and heal from distressing experiences, trauma, and difficult life events. EMDR helps the brain reprocess experiences that may feel "stuck" so they become less overwhelming. EMDR can be effective for PTSD/CPTSD, anxiety and other concerns related to difficult life experiences.
All therapy sessions are conducted virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Virtual therapy allows you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own space while maintaining meaningful connection and effective treatment. I currently provide virtual psychotherapy to adults located in Georgia, New York and Texas.
Not all therapists are trained to offer EMDR. As a certified EMDR therapist, I’ve met specific training requirements. This ensures my capability to guide clients effectively through the process, prioritizing their safety and emotional resilience. It's crucial to work with trained or certified professionals for optimal results in trauma therapy.
EMDR differs from traditional talk therapy in that it helps the brain process difficult experiences in a way that does not rely solely on talking about them. While insight and discussion can be important parts of healing, EMDR also works with the emotions, beliefs and body sensations connected to these experiences. Many people find that EMDR helps them feel less emotionally overwhelmed by experiences that continue to affect them in the present.
EMDR therapy does not begin with processing traumatic or distressing material. We first focus on understanding your history, identifying goals, building coping skills, and strengthening resources that help you feel prepared for the work ahead. Once a strong foundation is established, we collaboratively determine whether EMDR processing is appropriate and move forward at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.
